Index Of Poems

These Poems Are In Alphabetical Order - I thought of putting them in say ... My Favourite ... order but well I don't really have a favourite ... they are all bits of me and should reflect that! (Not that I'm a crazy depressed person or something, but well poetry lets me express what I can't really do or say - it keeps me sane and lets me have a bad day in peace! I hope that you can enjoy my poems and have a good browse - keep watching cause I am always adding more (its getting to a stage where I think I may have to split them up) ... I will just have to figure out how to ....

All Day Everyday
All day everyday
We sit and wait
With bated breath
And hopeful minds

All day everyday
We count our foes
Without a whisper
Without control

All day everyday
We wait for your call
Never to sure
Which way to turn

All day everyday
Asking patiently for
Your wish to be granted
Or to deny our pleas

All day everyday
We try and try
To find the solution
To find the light

Perhaps we try to hard
Perhaps we are wrong
Perhaps this is hell
Perhaps it's a song
We will never know
Till its too late
Perhaps that's life
And that's our fate

 Alone

The walls close in on me
The day stretches to infinity
The people run past me
I can't seem to move

The sirens wail around me
The buildings burn beside me
The watchers don't care
When I'm shunted to the ground

The hatches close around me
The sinking has begun
The sun is shut out
And I'm cut off from the rest

A leper in a colony
Of happy healthy minds
Keeping track of who and what
No matter what they find

 Alone in a Crowd

Cold and ancient
The blue gray sky
Looks down upon us
And wonders why
To shelter, to share
The people scamper by
Little worker ants
In a hive of metal
Concrete and stone

Howling past us
We bow our heads
In shame
Nowhere do we try
To see the pain

You look
I glance away
I try not to care
And change my path

So quiet so cold
We never look another
In the eye
We worry that we
Are perceived as strange
So we lie

Never talking
To those we know not
We stick to ourselves
And never venture forth
A town so large
Yet I feel so alone.

 Alone in the Millions

Alone in the millions
Crying for attention
The faces pass by
I notice I search
For that special one
To alienate
Desperate for
Recognition
For your heart
Your soul
But I will never find
What I want
Because I dont want
What I find

 Animal Wisdom

A smiling Cheshire cat
A laughing dog
They know the truth
They know the reason
The answer is 42
The question unknown
What do we strive for?
Where do we look?
Endlessly seeking
What we cannot find
Striving forever
For what we wont get
The animals know
With their simplistic minds
They laugh, giggle
And play our game
We are slaves to them
We do not know
The answer to the
Supersonic
Question of life

 Cape Town at Night

The stars shine so brightly
Against the backdrop of night
A pinprick of light
Faintly flickering life
Up we go to an endless void
A light to guide
To confuse of where
we are to go
Upwards and onwards
The further we go
Into the void
Drawn by the light
Into infinity

 Childlike Life

As a child
One learns quickly
To touch a stove
Is to burn

As an adult
I'm afraid to say
We are not
So quick to pull away

But memories of
Those blissfull days
Remind me
Everywhere I turn

That memories of
Those blissfull days
Remind
Everywhere I turn

That things are
Changing
Perhaps for the better
Maybe not

Perhaps we learn
Perhaps we forgot
As we grow
We change our views

Forget our past
Ignore our future
Ruin our morals
Spurn our friends

Hide from love
Welcome hate
Kill for money
Praise the evil

Turn our backs
On all we enjoy

Children know
The meaning of life
Adults ignore
Our inner child

Perhaps its our
Biggest failing

 Cliche

Moving Twirling
Dancing Bouncing
Reaching for the sky
In an enhanced state
Spasming arms raised
Lost in a crowd
A brand new face
Strolling, casually
Across the floor
Turning around
Fear no more
The Harshest
The Shakers
Out to tease
Beginning to please
Smoking walls
They fall away
Tired and content
We drift apart
No reprise
from uniformity
Be it PVC
Or lace and leather

Worlds apart
From the average day
Fear we are aware
Of the cliche
We pose

 Climbing to Success

Arms open wide
Ready to receive
On a road
To somewhere
With nothing
In mind
Searching, seeking
Opening doors
Tramping on the
Innocent and weak
Treading the
Forgotten path
Ignoring your
Blood, your heart
Hurting, killing
Mindless stampedes
To get to the top
And falling down
The ladder
Taking whom you can
Hurting who you will.

It doesn't matter anymore
Minds are screwed
For an inch up that
Ladder
Huh ... you think
You've won
Yet there will always
Be another
To take your place.

We live today
In a world
Of desire
And material gain
When will we learn
To give is to get
To aide is to succeed
To climb is to fall

 Confession

I confess to admiring beauty
Of partaking in it's grace
And passion.

I confess to the sins of man
Of loving and hating
And revenge.

I confess to reckless behavior
Of rushing ahead
And progressing.

I confess to the sins that condemn me
But am I wrong to say
I am living MY life
MY way!

 Creating Walls

Slipping out the door
With jacket in hand
I wonder what I have done
I wonder where I stand

Memories of laughter
That filled my heart with joy
Memories of loving
Are what you destroy

I offer no solace
To the ones left behind
And to memories of parties a
And of loving blind

My heart is ravaged
By the passages of time
Daggers of the uncaring
Left at the scene of crime

What can I do but erect walls
To keep the hurt outside
I want to open up the gate
But I am scared
I wont like the ride.

 Change

The year is now
The time has passed
People move on
Changing, morphing
With their circumstances
Waiting to achieve
Striving for that
Moment
Of recognition
Smiling, frowning
Laughing, crying
Emotional about
Petty ideals
Screaming for
Their beliefs.
Beliefs change
And motivation fades
Money and age
Corrupt the youth
Lest you remain
In this year
This place

 Darkest Nights

The dark and needy come out to play
When the light fades away
Cloistered from the daylight hours
We run and play in what is ours
The darkest depth of the night
Is when we feel the pull of our plight
The music does so dominate our days
And the particular madness of our ways
Keeping away from the light
We forever worship the dark night

 Death

Trying to find
The days gone by
Searching for something
That will never be found

Happiness is fleeting
Quick to be run away
A moment in time
Then the pain returns again

Silently we seek
Those elusive moments
Knowing they are short
Dwelling in the past

Seeking eternity
Seeking youth
Our magic potions
Are no use
We age we grow
We share our pain
We look we find
We die again

 Depression

A weight pushing down on you
Smothering all you see
Blanketing all you feel
Mechanically you move
Out of habit perhaps
Slowly, sluggishly
Without passion,
Without motivation
A robot without a program
Aimlessly performing
Your day to day tasks
Touch has no feeling
Taste has no flavour
Smell has no aroma
Sight has no colour
Sound has no music.
The world has become
A 20's film
Black and white
Soundless and untouchable
You are a mere
Audience
No longer a participant
In a life of wonder
You question
When will this end?
When will you rejoin
The cast of characters
You were once a part of?
Reaching out
You discover that
There is nothing left
For your seeking hands
It has all become
Grey and dull
Even your friends turn
Their eyes away
They don't want to be tainted
By your world of grey.

 Dreamstealer

Silently staring
From the edge of my bed
Man of mystery
Faceless and eerie
I wake, you're there
I cannot see you
Cannot make out your features
You turn to leave
I am frozen in time
Cannot move
Pulse racing
I get up to see
Who, what and where
You are
But you have gone
Left me to my own devises
Violated by your visit
I cannot rest
Until I find you
My dreamstealer

Forgotten

In the distance I hear a roar
In the distance I hear my name
In the distance people laugh
In the distance the smile again

So far from me
They walk ahead
Leaving me now
With sorrow instead

I call out
They do not hear
I tremble I shake
I'm all alone I fear

Running towards them
I finally get near
An outsider, an intruder
They don't want me that's clear

I realise all the same
That there's nothing to do
I'm forgotten that's all
I'm lonely and blue

 Halloween

The line is fine
The dead are near
Ol' Hallows Eve
We've nothing to fear
Darkness and light

All that we are

To the dark months ahead
We tremble in fear
Or love it instead

 Heart Stealer

Slipping through the entrance
You skulk out the door
Uncaring and heedless
Of the bodies on the floor

You rape, ravage and pillage
The village maidens so pure
Striking out and hurting
Others who were sure

Softly whispering love talk
You lure your next prey
Into a web of decadence
Gone tomorrow but alluring today

Words are precious
Real or not
You lure and you trap
But then you forgot

That I was once a maiden
So pure and alive
You shattered my dreams
And then took my drive

I look back and remember
The laughter instead
But then it washes over me
A feeling of pure dread

I look at myself
And hate what I see
I used to blame you
But now I blame me

You come near
I push you away
A childhood fantasy
A teenage curse

I look in your direction
And see you walking away
Scared for that time
When it will be final

I tell you my tales
And secret fears
You then know too much
That I pull back

Bitchy words
Claws out
Its my defence
Against you leaving

 Its Strange

Its strange how insignificant the world seems
How we enter its reality, its zone
We slip through life and never notice
The cosmic sand we are

Its strange how life continues to flash on by
Another day is just lurking in the shadow behind
Confronting us with the inhumanity
And unfamiliarity it seems to possess

Its strange how we continue to seek our destiny
New ways to further our insignificant cause
A motto a credo it all cries the same song
If loss and gain and untried paths

Its strange the way life has evolved
Our patterns have changed, our paths grown apart
Our emotions segregated and imprisoned
In our need to be unique and powerful

Its strange
That no matter how hard we try
We always end up
Dead

Watch your back
Do not lurk
Dangers there
With a smirk
Lying low In the dark
It will catch you
And place its mark

Running forth

The light diminishes.

Slaughter in the streets
Rampaging men
Looking for light
Where there is none.

 Little Dot

Oh little dot on the wall
Who's the fairest of us all?
You sit, you stare
At us all day
Nothing is spoken - what do you say?

Oh little dot on the wall
Who's the scariest of us all?
We throw, we shout,
We hurl abuse
Nothing is shared - whats the use?

Oh little dot on the wall
Where do you belong in this urban sprawl?
A fire, a light
In the dark
Why is it there - that little spark?

Oh little dot on the wall
What secrets you do not share.
Perhaps one day you will reveal all
But for now perhaps
Not knowing is better than knowing all

 My Garden

The world around
Is glowing with life
So bright
And vibrant
Sparkling and new
The dew drops on the grass
The birds chirruping in the trees
The pups grazing the tender greens
All in a row, red brown and black
Statues of princes
From long time
With a wizeness of age
A lazy stroll
Across my garden
The make Gone.
The blossoms struggling
In the breeze
With ears of orange
And a snout of green
Blaming the others
For not shielding him.
The tree stands guard
Wizened with age
Arms forever reaching
For a touch never made
The clouds in the sky - radiantly grey
Blinding to see in the light of day
The sky azure blue
Deep royal sky blue
Dark with clarity
Watchful and smiling
At her wondrous view.

The garden is overwhelming
With a life, a story, a culture.
It is a great interlude
It is a wonder they let me in.

 Oktoberfest '99

We sit here
And drink mas
The music is good
The beer even better
We meet different cultures
And have good times
Today tomorrow
We see them again
After Oktoberfest
No more drinking
Just friends
Too many steins
Too little time
We make more friends
We drink, we dance, we sing
But when its over
To work we go
Head is heavy
Tummy upset
It takes too long
And then we drink more
All is right
All is fun
Tonight we drink
Tonight we dance
Tomorrow is tomorrow
Today is Wiesn

Path not Taken

Softly the rain falls
A curtain of tears
The heavens have opened
And the sky is weeping
For its lost love
Its missing half
So easy to realise
That the time is past
And the moment has gone
By delaying the gesture
You forsake the result
The path not taken
Has grown thick with weeds
The debris blocks the way
Its no longer there
All hope is gone
And another route must be found.

Perversion

Slowly it falls
Like rain on a summers day
Gently kissing your skin
With warmth and tenderness Delving into your mind
Uncovering your deepest thoughts
Wandering through the mazes
Of conscious and unconscious thoughts Catching you unawares
It grabs the thing
You cherish most
Twisting the meaning
Perverting the memory
Hatred comes unannounced
Unwelcomed, uninvited
And taints the past
Destroying your mind
Eating your life
Until there is nothing
Left to love

 Pity

Blue, gray, green
Brown as mud
The days stretch on
Without a thud

Clean and dirty
You never now
People are sneaky
Wherever you go

You smile at a stranger
In amongst the crowd
You laugh and giggle
Or live in a shroud

Climbing falling
You place a bet
Tightrope walking
It rains, you’re wet

Suffer ignorance
Suffer pain
You’re a bitch
I’ll say it again

 She is the City

The stars pale beside
The beauty of the city
At night, she is
A queen bedecked in a
Million diamonds, rubies and emeralds
Humming with warmth
And welcome
The odd murmur
Hungry for attention
Hungry for love
The city is a warm haven
For those that love it
And a cold rock
For these who abuse her

Sound like anyone you know?

 Simple

Simply staring
At the wall
Seeing nothing
Nothing at all

Blindly searching
Never to find
The love we lost

Trying to see
Trying to share
Trying to love
Trying to care

Nothing happening at all
Distances travelled
Yet nothing done
I try to push
But I don't know how
You leave me here
With nothing to do
What am I to say
Where am I to go
Stuck without an option
Without anything
Or anywhere to turn
I feel lost
I feel displaced
This is not my home
This is not my town
You took me places before
But now you leave me

Alone.

Sky High

The patchwork quilt below
Greens, browns, reds and yellow
Fluffy spires and whippy trails
Blue above
Blue below
Icicles on my window
Star shaped they grow
Each unique and spidery
A peak, a trough
A landscape
As insubstantial
As light itself
Darkness below
As the light steals away
Pinks purples and reds now
Green has gone
To be replaced by
Chilling grey
Stars below
An inverted sky
Pinpricks in the black
Letting you believe
Life exists, love exists
Because to stop believing
Will lead to our extinction

 Snow

Silently to the ground
The whiteness falls
Softening the sound of the city
Covering all with its wedding cake frosting.

So serene and calming
Like the beautiful call of morning
Hiding the gray
Softening the corners

White ghostly trails
Through the night
The path is indistinct
The way is covered

The city is reborn
Changed overnight
The grayness erased
Its all made white
The city of hope
Streets paved with gold
The snow capped buildings
Pinnacles in the night
Beauty no words can explain
Why where when
The beauty came

Far to short,

The sweetest of sweet
Cannot help being
Destroyed
By the malignancy of life

The Storm

The sky so grey
Mimicing my mood
Stormy clouds
Are drawing near
Thunder in the distance
A gentle roar
To quiet the herd
As they run for cover
'Neath the widespread arms
Of the farmyard tree
Heedless of the danger
They put themselves in.

Testing the water
A shock to the system
The danger is nigh
The smell of death lingers
Perhaps you are safe
Perhaps not
The storm may die
Before reaching you
Or break once its past

But theres always the chance
That lightening will strike
The very cover sought out
To protect you.

 Wailing Sadness

Looking out
Into the darkness of night
The inky sky
Meets the inky sea.
The cries of the waves
Echo the sadness
Of lives lost
Of sadness buried
Within her inky depths
Over the bay
The lights flicker
Beckoning, calling
Happy and bright
But the murky depths'
Calls are stronger
The light cannot,
Will not win
Over the sorrowful seas
Wailing sadness.

 The Wanderer

The Wanderer's in a world
So desolate so gray
In his hand an empty bottle
While his coat flies away

On a track leading to nowhere
In a land so cold so bare
The wanderer is so lonely
Standing looking there

He looks up
There's no where else to look
His forehead creased with lines
From others who came and took

The pebbles at his feet
The wind in his hair
The lookers in cant help it
They can only stare

The wanderer is a fighter
He strives to make things right
His only problem is that bottle
Which tends to make him fight

The above poem (The Wanderer) was written especially for a good friend, *NO* my best friend called Monica Ten Hove. She gave me this picture called The Wanderer for my 15th birthday. I wrote the poem as a gift back to her to say how much I appreciate her friendship - Monica, you are the best friend a girl can have and thanks for all the good times we have had and all the good times we will have in the future. *hugs and kisses*

 Warnings

Danger signs everywhere
Warding off the treat
Our little pleasures in life
Become the bullet of death

MSG, Nicotine, Alcohol
And more
Killing our bodies,
Souls and minds.

So they say.
Yet in our troubled world
Pleasures are few
Gratification minimal
Death nearby.
Are these warning signs
Yet another bullet of death.

Cause we are afraid

18 Sept

Its been a good long time
Since we said our goodbyes
We parted ways
With a shared breathe
A moment of passion

years have passed
7 years since that first kiss
5 years 3 days since the end
a lifetime ago
yet so near to my heart
you stay

our memories
clear in my mind
the silos, rustlers,
linden, vorna valley,
washing machines
and dodgy cars

i remember the day
i shaved your head
i remember the kiss
on a balcony with
tequila in my veins
stars in the sky
and dolphins heralding
the morning

you were my first love
and forever will be
the one i gave
so much to
and received so much
in return
